Over a decade ago, Karin Howell and Susanne Preiss founded this privately-run initiative with a profound mission: to transform the lives of children from the impoverished Lamu community and a nearby orphanage. Today, their school stands as a beacon of hope and opportunity for 296 children aged 7 to 19, offering a groundbreaking curriculum that combines literacy and play-based learning with rich extracurricular pursuits in the performing arts, sports, and technical skills like gardening, woodworking, and sewing.
With a newly constructed campus and a team of professionally trained staff, this school is more than a place of learning; it’s a gateway to a future filled with possibility. Here, students don’t just gain knowledge—they are empowered with the skills and confidence to envision lives beyond their circumstances.
Committed to long-term financial sustainability, the project is continuously evolving. Its visionary goals include the expansion of its vocational programs, including a culinary vocational program, housing for teachers and staff, rental apartments, and even a community bakery.
